Birchwood Animal Hospital is an animal veterinary clinic in Mississauga that offers animal care services for dogs and cats. We offer wellness and vaccination programs for general care, surgical service and anesthesia for emergency care, as well as comprehensive dental care for your pets. We have been locally owned and operated for over 40 years, caring for pets in our community as members of our family.

Our Story

Birchwood Animal Hospital was founded by Dr. Richard Chung in Mississauga, Ontario in 1981 to provide compassionate care for dogs and cats. Growing up in Vietnam, Dr. Chung was raised on a family farm and developed a strong bond for taking care of the animals on the farm. He came to Canada on a scholarship at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph and decided to stay in Ontario to start a family and a new business.

In 2005, Dr. Chung’s daughter, Jessica, completed her training at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph and joined Birchwood Animal Hospital as a veterinarian. In 2010, Dr. Chung retired from practice and Jessica become the new owner of Birchwood Animal Hospital. Since then, Birchwood has grown to include a caring team of veterinarian doctors, animal health technologists and animal care attendants.

Took our sick 17 year old cat to Birchwood today. I thought he was near the end of his life. Dr. Chung and her team did an amazing job, diagnosed and treated the illness and he came back home yesterday. I was worried we may have to put him down, but I’m relieved they were able to save him. I’m so grateful for the team at Birchwood!

Our family adopted a new puppy and we took him into the hospital for routine exams and vaccinations. The new facility looks great – modern and clean. Booking was easy and the team were super helpful. Would definitely recommend.

The new vet Dr. Vidal and his team were great. They took care of our dogs during our routine checkup and were through in answering our questions. They even found a new form of gum disease during our dental screenings. Glad to treat this right away before it gets worse. We’ll be coming back to Birchwood – service was great!
